Cast Iron Briquetting Press

Using cast iron briquetting machines and related systems to transform waste into uniform, high-density, and easily managed round briquettes, while also unlocking additional economic benefits. This redefines the previously time-consuming and labor-intensive process of recycling and handle, serving various metal machining and foundry industries as well as professional recycling centers.

Enerpat - Cast Iron Briquetting Machines

Enerpat metal briquetting machines are high-strength pressing devices designed for hard, easily abraded cast iron scrap. Completely different from ordinary wood chip and biomass, we have achieved significant improvements in pressing force, wear-resistant structure, and smooth feeding. Although cast iron chips vary in shape, oil content, and size, we have suitable machines and production line to press them into high-density briquettes that are dry, and have a significantly reduced oil content.

We use hydraulic systems, with pressing force ranging from 100t to 1250t. They are equipped with industrial cooling devices to keep the hydraulic oil temperature within a safe range, meeting the needs of continuous production. Siemens/Schneider PLC control systems ensure stable operation, real-time monitoring of operational data, and maximize automation. During pressing, the cutting fluid carried by the scrap is squeezed out and automatically collected.

Why Cast Iron Chips Are Difficult To Handle

Cast iron chips from many industrial processes, including turning, milling, drilling, boring, and grinding. They come in various forms, commonly including powdery, fine needle-like or flaky fragments, as well as spiral shavings of varying lengths. Compared to aluminum or copper, they are harder, more brittle, and more abrasive. They also commonly contain cutting fluid, sludge, and dust.

Traditional methods of handling cast iron scrap not only created a dirty workshop environment but also polluted the land with cutting oil and resulted in low remelting efficiency. When stored in the open, they are also highly susceptible to oxidation and rust. Even with briquetting technology, the poor plasticity plasticity places high demands on the pressing force of the machine, and its strong abrasive properties imposed high requirements on the strength of the mold.

From Loose Cast Iron Chips to Neat Briquettes

After pressing, it’s not just a change in appearance and volume. It also fundamentally alters their potential risks and economic attributes, thereby reshaping their recycling pathways and value. They are transformed from a difficult-to-manage loose scrap into an industrial material that can be recycled in a standardized manner.

Metal chips are no longer a continuous burden on processing workshops and recycling centers, but rather become dense, clean briquettes that are easy to store, transport, remelt, and sell.

cast iron briquettes
Easy to Store

Loose material are large in volume, irregular in shape, take up space, and are not easy to weigh. When pressed into briquettes, they have a neat and compact appearance, making them easier to pack into ton bags, crates, or pallets for centralized storage, and eliminating the dripping of cutting fluid on the ground.

Bagged transport
Easy to Transport

The bulk density of cast iron chips is 1–2 t/m³ (62–125 lbs/ft³) or even lower, limiting the load capacity of transport vehicles. After pressing, it can reach 4–6 t/m³ (250–375 lbs/ft³), allowing the same transport vehicle to accommodate a greater weight. This also makes forklift handling and loading become more efficient.

remelt
Easy to Remelt

Loose scrap have a large surface area and are easily oxidized in the smelting furnace. briquettes, on the other hand, have a high density and a smaller surface area in contact with air, allowing for stable remelting and reducing losses. The extremely low cutting fluid content significantly improves remelting efficiency.

sell
Easy to Sell

Compared to messy, high oil content, and space-consuming metal chips, regularly shaped briquettes are easier to weigh, inspect, bag, and trade. Recyclers and foundries are more willing to buy them, and their resale value can typically be increased by 20-30%.

Briquetting Machines for Harsh Environment

The environment in which cast iron chips are generated is often quite harsh. They may from grinding, parts processing and the machining of various mechanical castings, and are accompanied by metal dust, cutting fluid, oil, continuous operation and frequent material impact. These substances can corrode the seals, guide rails, and electrical components of the briquetting machine. This can easily lead to machine malfunctions or unstable pressing, and the hydraulic system overheat, necessitating a shutdown. Therefore, the machine’s durability and environmental tolerance are particularly important.

Our cast iron briquetting machine uses reliable PLC control and can withstand humid, dusty, and vibrating workshop conditions. It also provides comprehensive monitoring and alarms, ensuring the machine maintains a clear and stable operating logic at all times. An industrial refrigeration system constantly controls the hydraulic oil temperature, preventing deterioration and shutdowns regardless of workshop heat or continuous operation.

Customized Briquetting Service

Customized Service

Enerpat focuses on the material itself. We can conduct pressing tests using our different briquetting machines based on the materials samples or site information you provide. This allows you to determine the molding effect, density, and weight, and estimate the hourly output accordingly. This provides a more accurate basis for machine selection, closely resembling the actual production.

Simply provide us with photos of the material, their source, oil content, and output. We can test and recommend the most suitable machine model or solution. This avoids under-configuration leading to incomplete press or over-configuration, which wastes performance and cost.

Cast Iron Briquetting System

When scraps are curled, long, or tangled, using a briquetting machine directly can easily cause jamming and result in poor pressing effects. Therefore, using a professionally designed system is essential. This is a complete recycling production line that achieves fully automated operation, including shredder, de-oiling, briquetting, automatic feeding, and conveying.

First, the long, tangled materials are processed into shorter chips by a shredder. Then, an de-oiling recovers the cutting fluid. This is a common choice for medium to large-sized enterprises because this briquetting system solves the problems of low efficiency and insufficient cutting fluid recovery. It can directly process various bulky curled scraps generated from machining workshops, including cast iron chips, eliminating other processes and significant labor costs.

Not all factories or workshops require a complete production line system; for example, short, shredded materials can omit the shredder, and dry materials can omit the de-oiling.

Frequent Asked Questions

Can briquetting machine withstand long-term wear and tear on hard cast iron?

Yes. First, the pressing mold, which comes into direct contact with the material, is made of a higher-strength alloy material, which is an extremely hard metal that is not easily worn. Second, a multi-layered sealing design is used at the joints of the components to prevent the corrosion of dust and oil.

Are cast iron briquettes easy to break?

After being subjected to a pressure of hundreds of tons to thousands of tons, cast iron scrap, whether in powder, granular or short fragments, will be transformed into high-density, compact cylindrical briquettes. They fully meet the requirements for bagging, stacking, handling, and transportation, maintaining a stable shape before entering the furnace without easily breaking.

Can cast iron chips with high cutting fluid content be briquetted?

Yes, but it’s advisable to consider whether to directly press or pre-degrease them.

If the material only has some cutting fluid on its surface and the dryness requirement for the briquettes is not high, direct pressing is possible. The pressing process will also squeeze out and collect most of the cutting fluid.
If the material is nearly completely wet or mixed with oil and sludge, then it’s necessary to use a de-oiling machine first. This will result in better molding quality and cleanliness.

What briquette sizes are available and how should i choose?

Depending on the model of the machine, Enerpat outputs briquettes with diameters of 90 mm, 120 mm, and 130 mm. The heavy-duty series can produce large briquettes ranging from 140 mm to over 310 mm. The thickness can be flexibly adjusted according to the weight of the material entering the pressing chamber.

Smaller size offer greater flexibility, while larger diameter are better suited for high-volume production and heavy-duty remelting applications.

How many briquettes can be produced per minute?

On average, the machine about 10–20 seconds to press a briquette. The complete operation includes: feeding, hydraulic rod pressing, rod retraction, and output. It can output 4 to 6 briquettes per minute. As long as the feeding is continuous and stable, the machine can output continuously, ensuring high efficiency.

Can a briquetting press help me get more value from cast iron chips?

Of course, the explicit value includes reduced transportation and storage costs due to the reduction in material volume; reduced purchase and pollution costs due to the recovery of cutting fluid; and higher prices when sold.

Overall, this gradually reduces production and management costs, resulting in significant long-term benefits.
