Aluminum chips are Difficult to Handle and Recycle
What truly makes the workshop dirty and messy is not the large pieces of waste, but small metals like aluminum shavings. These are scattered everywhere on the floor, and they are oily and tangled together. This not only poses a safety hazard, but also directly affects the workshop’s image and the factory’s professionalism. Ther are very common in the industrial sector, may come from CNC machining centers, automotive parts manufacturing, or die-casting workshops. From aerospace aluminum materials to electronic casings, from die-cast parts to components, they are constantly being produced.
Aluminum chips are usually lightweight, but their loose texture results in a large volume; one ton can fill a warehouse, wasting storage resources. This also leads to situations where vehicles are fully loaded during transport, but the actual load is insufficient, resulting in wasted transportation costs. What’s more troublesome is that most scraps are not dry; they often contain cutting fluid, lubricating oil, or coolant, leading to environmental pollution, increased cleaning difficulty, and affecting remelting quality. Secondly, aluminum chips have a larger surface area in contact with air, and the longer they are exposed to air, the more severe their oxidation, resulting in a significant weight reduction after remelting.
Compared to other metals, aluminum is lighter and softer, with better plasticity, making it ideal for pressing into briquettes. More and more enterprises are now choosing briquetting machines to handle troublesome them, making they a modern, efficient, and high-value solution.
Types and Shapes of Aluminum Chips
Aluminum are the most widely tested type in our metal briquetting machines. They come from various industries and are produced in various shapes, including curled turnings, fine filings, flakes shavings, and even powder from grinding and polishing. At Enerpat, they can all be reduced in volume and recycled through a briquetting process. However, there are slight differences in the machine’s feeding, pressing force, and pretreatment requirements.
For scraps that are already in a loose, granular, or short fragment form, they can be directly fed into the briquetting machine. However, for large, curled, fluffy, or severely entangled scraps, direct pressing will cause blockages and uneven feeding problems, and pre-crushing is required. For wet chips containing cutting fluid or oil, although the pressing process can separate them, if higher requirements are placed on dryness and quality, it is also necessary to first use a de-oiling machine to recover the cutting fluid and oil.

Shavings are flake-like, lightweight, and have a very low bulk density. They require high pressing force to ensure compactness, and the oil content also needs to be considered.

Like small sunflower seed shells or rice grains, ranging in size from 3 to 20 mm, can be directly fed into the briquetting machine’s feeding chamber. After pressing, they have extremely high density, a neat appearance, and precise edges.

Uneven size, shape, and oil content, and if the pressing force is insufficient, the compactness of the finished briquettes will be uncertain. It is necessary to determine whether shredding and de-oiling are required based on the specific material.

Like springs, they can be tens of centimeters long and are coiled into a ball, with an exceptionally fluffy volume. They are more difficult to handle than other chips, so we recommend processing them into smaller pieces using a shredder first.
Pressing Loose Aluminum Chips into High-Density Briquettes
Pressing various aluminum chips, which are difficult to manage, have high losses, and low recycling value, into regular, clean briquettes not only improves processing efficiency but also brings greater economic benefits.
Although a professional hydraulic briquetting machine may seem expensive, the increased selling price, the fines for environmental pollution caused by cutting fluid, and the savings in traditional manual handling costs can all help recover the investment within two years. The higher the production volume, the shorter the payback period.
During the remelting, the contact area with air is extremely small, and the oxidation loss rate can be reduced to less than 2%, so they are not wasted
The powerful pressing force not only easily shapes, but also forces out the cutting fluid or oil. After filtration, the fluid can be reused, significantly reducing the cost of expensive cutting fluid purchases
The price of recycled scraps is usually only 60%-70% of the price of aluminum. After being pressed into high-density briquettes, the price can rise to 85%-95% of the price of aluminum, a difference of several thousand yuan per ton
The volume is reduced to one-tenth of the original volume. This maximizes the use of space in vehicles, ton bags, or containers, increasing the capacity of a single transport trip
They can be stacked neatly, no longer taking up too much workshop space, and the floor is no longer dripping with cutting oil, improving the workshop’s cleanliness
Enerpat - Pressing Process
We have simplified machine operation and achieved a high degree of automation. First, you can manually feed the materials or use a conveyor to feed it. Then, start the machine with button and wait for the briquettes to be output. No manual intervention is required, and the cutting fluid is automatically collected.

Aluminum chips are pushed from the hopper into the pre-pressing chamber through spiral blades. The feeding is continuous and uniform, without clogging, which is the basis for subsequent pressing.

This is the core process. The main hydraulic cylinder is activated, and the hydraulic rod presses the materiales with hundreds of tons of pressure. The scraps undergo violent deformation, transforming from a loose state into a compact round briquettes.

As the material is pressed in the mold, the cutting fluid is extruded and then flows into a storage tank through an internal collection. The process is completely sealed, preventing cutting fluid leakage and contamination of the ground.

After pressing, the main hydraulic rod retracts, the baffle plate opens, and the formed briquettes are pushed out from the mold. If ejection fails, the sensor will trigger an alarm and the machine will stop.

Yes. However, aluminum briquettes mixed with impurities can only be considered low-value scrap, and few smelters are willing to buy them. If magnesium chips are mixed in, they cannot be pressed, which poses a fire risk.
Yes, although aluminum alloys are harder than pure aluminum, they can still be used with briquetting machines.
Our tests show that the average density is 1,900–2,100 kg/m³, or 119–131 lb/ft³. The density will be even higher with greater hydraulic pressure.
They typically do not require frequent and meticulous maintenance. Daily tasks include cleaning the hopper after use to prevent buildup and blockages. Regularly clean the cutting fluid recovery area. Check the hydraulic oil annually for deterioration or replacement.
You can bring your materials to our US factory or send them to us, or we can find the type and shape of materials you specify. We will test them for you using different machines.

Some Suggestions Regarding Aluminum Chip Pressing
As industrial manufacturing becomes increasingly advanced, environmental regulations are becoming stricter, making the standardized and safe handling of various metal chips even more crucial.
A briquetting machine is one of the practical and most reliable machines for this purpose. With the right investment, lost economic benefits can be recovered, while also providing peace of mind regarding safety and compliance.
- Long, curled scraps need to be crushed first; otherwise, they will cause auger blockage during feeding. The maximum recommended size is no more than 20-30mm.
- Mixing with magnesium or flammable solvents is strictly prohibited, as there is a risk of combustion and explosion under high pressure.
- Although the machine can separate liquids, it is not recommended to have too high a content of cutting fluid, oil, or emulsion. If the liquid content is too high, we recommend de-oiling first.
- Aluminum briquettes are still reactive and must not be stored in the open air. They should be stored in a dry place and remelted as soon as possible; otherwise, oxidation loss will increase.
- Qualified briquettes should have a compact structure, no surface cracks, and be undamaged when dropped from a height of 1 meter. Otherwise, hidden problems with the machine should be investigated.
